List of my essential programs and tools (WIP)
PRODUCTIVITY
HP PIM suite (HP Quickpad, HP Viewer, Tasks, Calender, Contact): Good enough for my personal PIM needs
Pocket Word: Fast, super lightweight, effective
SpreadCE: More powerful than Pocket Excel, less heavier than Planmaker
ListPro (3.0): Need to study the manual. Extremely flexible and full of potential for different purposes.
Mobipocket Reader (4.3): From the Jornada Central CD. Other versions seem not working.
Adobe Reader (2.0): Simple though limited PDF reader. Just works.
MDict (3.0): The most useful dictionary for HPCs. Tons and tons of dictionary databases, if you put a little effort to look around...
PocketC: For learning some C programming
BasiCE: For learning Basic on the fly (looks like for MIPS and SH3 only...)
SYSTEM TOOLS
Resco Explorer (now exemptionware): File manager, registry editor, quick picture viewer, zip manager
ResInfo WR-Tools: Great to monitor battery level and resources (CPU, RAM) usage
HP Backup: Simple and fast backup utility using a speedy CF
Pocket RAR: A classic archive manager
Redgear: For running apps not writtened for HPC 2000
Winwatch: For running and resizing apps for Pocket PC
GAPI (WinCESoft): Similar to Redgear and Winwatch
Executibility check: Very handy to find out requisites of individual programs for simple hacking
Redistibutables: Visual Basic stuff?
SearcH/PC (Spiny): Slick file search tool
Various libraries: basically from cmonex's archive
SmallTweak (Tilanosoft)
Microsoft Plus!
Microsoft Power Toys
PocketDos [update!]: The developer replied to my request for purchasing a license (~USD$25) within the same day. Got the unlock code and the latest (1.12.3) version running on my Jornada 720, unlocking a great portal to the big world of DOS programs!
MULTIMEDIA
Voice Recorder (builtin): works just fine. Record quality OK, clips can be saved on CF card.
TCPMP: need to learn to install plugins
CaptCE: screen capture (the one for this blog post)
GAMES
PocketSlay: I play this game to death no matter where it is installed (PC, Android, HPC)
Nethack: The default choice of roguelike. I wish I can get something like iRogue to run on my Jornada one day.
WISHLIST
HPC Notes Professional (v4.3): Phatwares is gone. Hopefully hpc12 would share his installer
Tombo: Is it a capable outliner?
PocketDos: Still trying to contact the developer to purchase a license
Opera Browser: Working under HPC 2000?
Flash player: Trying to get the Mythic GME emulator SWF file to run. Failed using V6. (too dated)
nPopUK: Email client
Ravpower FileHub WD03 (@SSP): As a medium to share current networks (N, WPA2) with HPC (via Ethernet card or Bluetooth?)
Anki-like flashcard programs
Car racing games or 1st person flight games that make use of the widescreen (HVGA) resolution
Saw your wishlist... Opera Browser works fine under Redgear, as long as you set your date back to 2007 or something. It is pretty much useless on modern web, just like any other browser on the Jornada. If you want a true browsing experience I recommend setting up a WinXP Pro box and connecting to it through RDP (Terminal Services on WinCE). -ntware
ReplyDeleteThanks for your tip! But the challenge here is to get a network card that is compatible with modern network (G or N mode).
DeleteI am thinking of an alternative solution by using the Rav Filehub as a medium between local wireless networks and the legacy HPC hardware, just as how this gentleman get his 200LX working: https://youtu.be/w-LdxAoGXcA
